General Information

Workshop Venue Hotel Kurhaus in The Hague, Netherlands.
Hosts The Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment of the Netherlands on behalf of the Presidency of the EU.
Subject The consequences of the implementation of the proposed European legislation regarding the use of chemical substances (REACH regulation), for society in general and for the business sector in particular.
Aim To facilitate and promote an optimal outcome of the work of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Chemicals regarding the impact of the draft REACH regulation.
Activities The workshop will discuss the results of the available impact studies in a comprehensive working document. During a plenary discussion, the workshop participants will consider which conclusions can be drawn from the results of the impact studies.
Results A presentation of the activities and conclusions of the workshop in the Ad Hoc Working Group on Chemicals in November 2004.
Participants A maximum of two representatives (senior policy advisors in the field of Economic Affairs or the Environment/Health) per member state.
Representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council Secretariat will also be invited to attend the workshop.
Chair The workshop will be chaired by Professor Jan Terlouw, former minister of Economic Affairs in the Netherlands.

Documentation 1. Participants will receive a comprehensive overview of the available impact studies in advance .
2. Before, during and after the workshop all kinds of relevant documents and comments will be available on this website
Costs The Government of the Netherlands will cover the costs of hotel accommodation (two nights at Hotel Kurhaus in The Hague) as well as the meals during the course of the program . Other costs, such as transport and personal (hotel) costs (e.g. minibar, telephone, additional nights in the hotel) have to be covered by the participants.

Smoking Smoking is now prohibited in many places in the Netherlands. There will be no smoking during the workshop. Those who want to smoke will be able do so in designated areas during the breaks . Some of the hotel rooms are non-smoking rooms.
